A BILL to amend article seven-a, chapter eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, by adding thereto a new section, designated section thirty-five-d, relating to the state teachers retirement system; and giving a maximum of two years' prior service credit for teachers with employment as a teacher outside this state.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That article seven-a, chapter eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended, be amended by adding thereto a new section, designated section thirty-five-d, to read as follows:
ARTICLE 7A. STATE TEACHERS RETIREMENT SYSTEM.

§18-7A-35d. Prior service credit for members of the state teachers retirement system employed in a another state.

Any member of the state teachers retirement system who was employed as a regular full-time employee in a teaching capacity outside this state is eligible for a maximum of two years prior service credit for that employment. Upon making application to the retirement board and providing satisfactory evidence, prior service credit shall be granted and the retirement allowance shall be recomputed and adjusted to include the prior service credit. Any increased retirement allowance resulting from the provisions of this section is not retroactive.



NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to give prior service credit of a maximum of two years for teachers with employment in another state.
